This course looks at both approved and unapproved share schemes.
The UK Government has enacted far reaching changes to both approved and unapproved share schemes. Acting on the recommendations of the office of tax simplification (OTS), there have been substantial changes to both tax advantaged plans and non-tax advantaged plans. The UK now has the most comprehensive range of tax advantaged plans in the OECD.
The course considers the changes to:
- setting up plans
- implementing them
- accounting for them
- communicating them
- reporting them to HMRC
- the benefits that they have
The course considers in detail the workings of the:
- share incentive plan
- save as you earn plan
- company share option plan
- enterprise management incentive plan
- “shares for rights”
- long-term incentive plan
- unapproved share option and share purchase plans
The increased incentives for companies to take up these types of plans means that increasingly employees will expect them as the norm. Participants will obtain a good view of each different type of plan and both the potential rewards and pitfalls in adopting share plans
